Growth Happens

There’s something humbling about trying to grow a plant. You can do everything “right” and still not know how it’s going to turn out. Some thrive, some don’t, and in the beginning, it all looks the same: quiet, still, almost like nothing is happening at all.

I bought an elephant ear bulb back in early March and planted it on March 15th. When I first got it, I noticed tiny sprouts already pushing through the bulb. Even then, I wasn’t fully confident it would grow into anything significant. Still, I planted it. I watered it. I paid attention. I even took time to actually learn about elephant ears instead of just relying on what I thought I knew—which, if I’m honest, wasn’t much.

The first week? Nothing.

The second week? Still mostly nothing… until one day, a small sign of life finally broke through the soil.

And then suddenly, it felt like everything changed. Growth started happening fast—faster than I expected. What once looked like “nothing” was actually something the whole time. It just wasn’t visible yet.

That’s how God works.

We struggle in the waiting because we expect visible results right away. We pray, we put in effort, we try to stay faithful—but when we don’t see anything happening, anxiety creeps in. Doubt starts whispering. We wonder if anything is changing at all.

But just like that bulb beneath the soil, growth is already happening—even when you can’t see it.

God is not idle in your waiting season. He is working beneath the surface, developing roots, strengthening your foundation, preparing you for what’s coming next. And when the time is right—not your time, but His—you’ll start to see the evidence of everything He’s been doing all along.

Scripture reminds us of this truth:

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1

God’s timing doesn’t always align with our expectations, but it is always intentional. Nothing is wasted. Not your waiting, not your effort, not your faith.

So if you’re in a season where it feels like nothing is happening, don’t give up.

Keep planting.

Keep watering.

Keep trusting.

Because growth is happening.

And one day, sooner than you think, you’ll look up and realize that what you’ve been praying for has been growing right in front of you the entire time.
