Isn’t it funny how God just allows us to do things?
The other day I posted on Threads about how I was looking for a place to meet single Christian liberal white men. Yes, it was a joke. It’s the week of Christmas and I wanted to pass the time at work. Anyway, what began as pure curiosity turned to genuine recommendations, unsolicited advice, and of course, you guessed it, the ever mentioning k*lling of babies. How did we get here? And why does someone else’s interests get people so wired up? I also NEVER said I was looking to DATE them. I could be doing research. Which I will be, through dates.
I’m 32 years old and I’ve never dated a white man. I’ve actually never dated outside of black and Puerto Rican men and I’m interested in knowing what it’s like. Will I fall in love and meet the man of my dreams? Probably not, but a little conversation won’t hurt. Perhaps the experience itself isn’t entirely for me, maybe it’s for someone else. Lately I’ve been finding myself in these situations only to meet someone else down the line where I can say, “I’ve done that before” and proceed to share my experience. Now do I always enjoy being the test dummy? No. Do I do it anyway? Yes.
The responses from my thread post (mostly from men) suggested that the words liberal and Christian contradict. But says who? My problem with this is that people expect or interpret the Bible and scripture itself as cut and dry. They want (or rather need) things to be spelled out for them in black and white. Why? Because it does not require them to think. However Jesus never gave us answers that plainly. Rather, there are times where he responds in questions for us to think about then answer for ourselves. There was a tik toker I watched the other day that mentioned this concept as well. She talked about how Jesus often spoke in metaphors because it forced people to discover the truth for themself. What I discovered from sending out this request to the social media world was that people don’t like to think for themselves and that’s just not possible if you’re truly following Christ. Knowing right from wrong requires us to think about each and every situation deeper than just what the eye can see because Christ sees us so deeply. He doesn’t just see us for our outside appearance but He looks at the heart.
I can’t help but wonder if God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit nudged me to make that post on purpose? I’m not entirely sure but I do know that sometimes (often at work) I get nudged to do things and I do them. There’s a running joke on social media about using our free will to just do random things and I think about that sometimes. We that consider ourselves Christian at least, tend to forget that. Though we have the opportunity to do (almost) anything, we stop when we feel as though it displeases God. But where do we get this thinking and how do WE come up with what’s inherently good or bad based on what we’ve interpreted from the Bible? I bring this up because so many American “Christians” have associated the god of their understanding with conservatism and it’s a shame. Now I’m not saying that Jesus was liberal but feeding over 4000 people for the free doesn’t exactly scream “conservatism”. But to each is own. What I ultimately learned from my post is that having liberal views doesn’t make me or anyone any less of a follower of Christ. Neither should we be demonized for it. This is beyond just voting. It’s advocating for people, the same people Christ sat with when the Pharisees condemned Him for it.
So if all hearts and minds are clear, I’ll leave you with this;
Don’t just fall in line. Disrupt the system.

Good stuff 🙌🏾
